My everyday hallelujah.
This is my everyday hallelujah. It is worship even when there is no melody being sung. My honest offering even when I have only tired and jagged pieces of my heart to lay down. My hosanna even when I’m not squeezed between the pews on Sunday morning.
My motherhood will be the anthem of my life that will echo far beyond my days. The chorus woven into my children's hearts that will outlast the breaths in my chest or the songs in my lungs. It is worship. A benediction written through sleepless nights and long days. Through bouncing teething babies and cheering on the sides of soccer games. Through the wearing of my knees as I sit by their bedside begging God to make himself known and real to their searching souls. This is my praise. My arms often are not physically stretched up towards heaven but wrapped around their warm bodies as I extend comfort. My fingers knit between their tiny hands when they need extra courage. My heart bent low to pick up the floor covered in toys, crawl under the crib to find the pacifier, sweep up macaroni, and apply yet another bandaid to a scuffed knee.
It all seems so ordinary. So mundane. And yet the ground beneath your feet while you read that bedtime story and blow to cool down the oatmeal, its holy. Sacred days disguised by familiar. An everyday hallelujah sung to the cadence of routine rhythms.
I wonder what it sounds like to the Father. The culmination of thousands upon thousands of mothers raising up a generation to love him and his people. The ballad rising toward heaven as each one gives their honest offering both night and day. As each mama pours out her life in worship to the Father through the daily acts of motherhood. I imagine it's the most delightful sound to his ears.
We place the embers of our offering at his feet and he fans them into flame, setting a whole new generation ablaze for his glory. Lighting up the torches they will carry on from our homes into the world. We don’t get forever with them- just a season. May we use our time to equip them with a light that overcomes darkness and show them the love that changes everything.
